The internet is roasting Elon Musk for getting fat. The billionaire has been gaining weight for a few years now, but why? Is it intentional? Whether he means to or not, the cause is clear: his unhealthy lifestyle.
He doesn’t prioritize eating well or exercising. Musk works up to 120 hours a week, resulting in a decline in his sleep quality, diet, and fitness levels. Weight gain is a common side effect of this. Because he doesn’t allow for balance in his life, he’s been piling on the pounds for several years now. This is particularly surprising since he was raised by a dietician.
Unfortunately, many people do not lead healthy lifestyles due to financial constraints. However, as the richest man in the world, Musk literally has access to every resource.
He could have a live-in personal trainer and nutritionist helping him make healthier decisions, but since Elon Musk is clearly a workaholic who doesn’t believe healthy living is at the top of his to-do list, he will pay for his addiction to work as he gets older.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has referred to himself as “fairly nocturnal” on a podcast and admitted to both sleeping at his desk and staying up all night to get work done. However, since it was impacting his life and making him less productive, he has tried to get at least six hours of sleep. The general amount of sleep recommended for adults is a minimum of seven hours, so Musk should still try to get a few more zzz’s in.
Not only does sleep deprivation lead to obesity, but it can also cause numerous issues like kidney and heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. When you combine that with high stress levels, which also contribute to these issues, it’s no wonder that he has suffered from weight gain. He also has a breakfast of the champions that most dieticians would be shocked by.
Musk has admitted to eating a donut every morning. On a Joe Rogan podcast episode in 20202, he boasted that he would “rather eat tasty food and live a shorter life.” What does his diet look like besides donuts? He loves steak, sushi, chocolate, and Diet Coke. He generally doesn’t like to eat veggies and prefers that potatoes and meat make up most of his meals.
In the Joe Rogan podcast, he admitted that as he ages, it’s been harder to “stay lean” and that he prefers not to exercise. However, recently Musk revealed that he lost more than 20 pounds. He did so by doing intermittent fasting and taking a semaglutide product called Wegovy, which is similar to Ozempic.
Lots of celebrities have been hopping on the trend of using diabetes medications with the ingredient semaglutide to manage weight and appetite. The medications are intended to be used in conjunction with reduced calorie intake, which semaglutide makes easier as it represses appetite.
Maybe Musk should spend a little less time obsessing over his business goals and focusing on his fitness and nutrition. Health is wealth, Elon Musk!
