It’s not a secret that every movie gets heavily trimmed before the final version. Usually, dozens or even hundreds of unused footage end up on the cutting room floor. Most of the time, these are full scenes, sometimes with basic CGI, that just didn’t fit the pacing or were just unnecessary to begin with. However, some of them are truly diamonds in the rough and would make the final movie much more fun to watch!
Fortunately, many of these deleted scenes end up on the Internet, so let’s sit down and enjoy some particularly interesting ones.
1. Blade Runner (1982)
The main protagonist, Deckart, has a dream in which he sees an origami unicorn. The same unicorn he finds at the end of the movie that’s also similar to the one made by his partner. Thus, the audience is hinted that the main character is a replicant whose dreams were artificially implanted in him. The filmmakers decided to get rid of this detail to make it more ambiguous. It was actually Harrison Ford himself who insisted on removing this scene.
2. Kill Bill 2 (2004)
Remember the scene where Bill fights a bunch of gang members in the alley, showing off his fighting abilities? The way Beatrix Kiddo looked up to him at that moment was pure awe. Oh right, you don’t remember this scene because it was cut out.
3. Aliens (1986)
In this deleted scene, Ellen Ripley wakes up from cryo sleep 57 years after the events of the first movie. She sees a photo of her daughter Amanda, who was ten years old when her mother flew off in the Nostromo spaceship and eventually fought off an alien xenomorph there. But it is revealed that in the present, Amanda died two years ago at the age of 66.
4. Batman Forever (1995)
This is a short one but looks pretty cool: in short, Bruce Wayne meets a giant bat that symbolizes his biggest fear and overcomes it because he’s Batman!
5. X-Men: First Class (2011)
Charles Xavier, known as Professor X, demonstrates his psychic abilities to one of the heroes, Angel Salvador. He makes her see Magneto sitting next to him, dressed in women’s clothing and wearing a wig. Sir Ian McKellen must have had so much fun with this scene!
6. Spiderman 2 (2004)
In this scene, Daily Bugle’s Editor-in-Chief J.J. Jameson puts on a Spider-Man suit he found in a dumpster and decides to have some fun with it: he pretends to be the Webhead jumping around the office.
7. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
One of many deleted scenes from The Lord of the Rings shows Sauron appearing to the heroes as the angel-faced Annatar during the final battle. It would have been very confusing to leave this in the theatric cut.
8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 1 (2010)
When you see this scene, you’ll immediately understand why it was deleted. Do you see the look on Ron Weasley’s face when he sees Viktor and Hermione dancing? Poor guy.
9. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
And here’s probably one of the most subtle deleted scenes on this list. When Sarah Connor removes the chip from T-800’s head, it shuts down, and Sarah gets flooded with memories of the events from the first movie. She realizes she can now easily destroy this tin can, and she almost does, but John Connor stops her in time. He convinces his mother that they stand no chance against T-1000 without Arnie.
