10 Celebrities We’ve All Loved and Hated At Some Point

Celebs are polarizing figures — they’re loved and hated by millions due to their offscreen or onscreen antics. Even with your favorite celebrity, you might go through a rollercoaster of feelings when it comes to your attitude towards them. Here are the top celebrities whom the masses have had a love/hate relationship with.

1. Kanye West

Let’s face it, the man is a musical genius and was the soundtrack for many of our formative years. He started getting controversial with all that Taylor Swift drama onstage and then said various egomaniac comments like stating he’s mentioned in the Bible. It was recently announced that Kanye struggles with bipolar disorder, which can help to excuse some of his actions, but it’s still not cool to take away a woman’s onstage moment, and equally uncool to harass your ex-wife’s new boyfriend.

2. Will Smith

Feelings towards Will Smith usually change based on the roles he plays. For instance, the first Men in Black and I Am Legend left him beloved by the public, but movies like Hancock just made people annoyed with him. There’s also the fact that he recently physically assaulted comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars, which left many people realizing that Smith might not be the good guy we’ve always made him out to be.

3. Britney Spears

When she shaved her head and had a nervous breakdown, lots of people ridiculed this pop queen. She entered stardom at a too-young age and unfortunately suffered the consequences. For many years, she was hated and misunderstood, but ever since news of her conservatorship broke and the #freebritney movement started, people were starting to understand and sympathize with Britney.

4. Rihanna and Chris Brown

While Chris Brown is definitely the villain in this story, we wish Rihanna would have been a better role model back then and not taken him back after he brutally beat her up. While RiRi’s career and personal life have definitely gone in a different direction since then, the chaotic relationship between these two forever tarnished their reputation.

5. Miley Cyrus

Miley divided the public when she went from Hannah Montana to full-on bad girl. Every girl deserves to explore her sensuality and identity like most of us did as young adults, but when she put on her big girl pants and departed Disney, a lot of people got mad that she turned into this party personality. We’re here for all versions of Miley, but she’s certainly gone through a lot of phases!

6. Megan Fox

In the age of the Transformer franchise, Megan Fox was adored by millions — girls wanted to be her, and guys wanted to be with her. But after the action flicks we saw her in a few movies and her acting in films with more dialogue people weren’t impressed. Then, she trash-talked her Transformers director Michael Bay and the movies she had starred in. Not the best move!

7. Tom Cruise

A lot of people love Tom Cruise and the movies he’s in, but his personal life has drawn criticism due to his involvement with Scientology and how he mistreated two of America’s sweethearts, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. People in the industry also call him a diva with an oversized ego, especially on the sets of his films.

8. Madonna

From the fake British accent to the “be edgy for attention” attitude, Madonna might have been an innovator in the world of music but her reputation as a celebrity wasn’t the best. She frequently dissed other artists, did an obnoxious appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” in 1994, and had a falling out with BFF Sandra Bernhard.

9. Kim Kardashian

The public has had a rollercoaster of emotion toward this privileged beauty and her family. Although much of her prestige isn’t earned, Kim had the audacity to say that “it seems like nobody wants to work these days” which is especially hypocritical given that an ex-employee of hers stated she underpays those who work for her. Not to mention that she also has people to take care of all aspects of her life, from cooking meals to taking care of her kids.

10. Kristen Stewart

People loved to rip on Kristen for her awkward acting, but there are other reasons why people have hated her in the past. From her weird interview vibe to cheating on Robert Pattinson with the married, children-having director, the world made Kristen Stewart out to be a villain. Also, a lot of people hated Twilight. But then she came out of the closet and got more comfortable with herself. This also led to better acting, thankfully, and the public hated her less!
